Following are the steps on how to install Ubuntu Desktop 18.04:

Step 1: Boot Ubuntu

First, insert the bootable flashdisk from Ubuntu into your computer’s USB. Then, turn on your computer.

When the boot process is running (the motherboard or laptop brand logo appears), you must immediately press the F2 / F10 / DEL keyboard shortcut button to enter the computer BIOS page.

You can only select one of the keyboard shortcuts above because each computer has a different shortcut.

Then change the boot device to the USB device that you are using and save the changes by pressing F10 > Save & Exit.

Step 2: Select Install Ubuntu

After successfully booting Ubuntu, you will be directed to the Ubuntu installation page, as shown below.

There are two choices when you want to install Ubuntu, namely Try Ubuntu and Install Ubuntu.

You can choose Try Ubuntu if you only want to see some Ubuntu features without having to install it permanently. If you are sure to install Ubuntu on a computer, you can immediately select Install Ubuntu.

Step 3: Select the Keyboard Layout

Next, you need to choose the keyboard layout. You are free to choose any layout. In this guide, how to install Ubuntu, we chose the default layout from Ubuntu. After selecting the keyboard layout that you want, click Continue.

Step 4: Select the Ubuntu Installation Type

There are two types of installations that you can do as a way to install Ubuntu, namely Normal Installation and Minimal Installation.

Step 5: Adjust the Installation Hard Disk Partition

After the steps above, you need to divide the hard disk partition. Select Something else and click Continue. Then the display will appear as in the image below.

Click New Partition Table to create a new partition on the hard disk. Make sure your hard disk is empty. If the hard disk is not empty and you select New Partition Table, all files on the hard disk will be deleted and cannot be restored.

If you are sure that the hard disk is empty, click Continue to continue the process of creating a partition.

Then there will be a new menu list for free space. Select the (+) button, and a display will appear as shown below. 

Then you need to fill in the details of the partition you want to create. Fill in the following data:

• Size: Enter the amount of storage size to be used.
• Type For The New Partition: Select the Primary or Logical partition type. Primary is used to save the Ubuntu installation. Whereas Logical is used to store common files on your computer.
• Mount Point: Enter the symbol / which indicates that this is a system partition.

After filling in the information accordingly, click OK to save the changes. The following are the results of partitioning:

Step 6: Select Location Timezone

Next, select your location timezone. Its function is to adjust the time and date on the computer. In this tutorial, we set the timezone location in Newyork. Click Continue to continue the installation process.

Step 7: Fill in User Data

After that, you need to create a new user on Ubuntu. The following information you need to fill in to create a new user:

• Username: Used to give your computer an identity.

• Password: Enter the password that you want to use to log in Linux.

Step 8: The install process
